A look around Bothwell Castle.
To the S.E of Glasgow, Bothwell Castle is built beside a bend in the river Clyde. A roughly rectangular castle but in one corner a cylindrical donjon. Part of this donjon dates back to the 13th century though most of the castle is 15th century.
Through the 13th and 14th centuries the castle regularly changed hands between the English and the Scots. It was eventually abandoned in the 18th Century.
About 10 miles from Glasgow, it’s only a few minutes drive from the M74 and within walking distance from local bus and train services. Well worth a visit.
