A day out at Doune Castle.
A place probably best known through its association with the Monty Python’s ‘Holy Grail’ film. Almost all of the castle scenes were filmed here.
The current building can be traced back to the late 1300s,
It did see military action during the 17th & 18th century, however by 1800 it was in ruin. Restoration was started in the late 1800s.
It is located close to the junction of the river Teith and the Ardoch Burn.
