Strange Christmas Glasgow

Glasgow city Christmas morning.

A look around a rather empty Glasgow city between 10 am and 11 am on Christmas morning.

It really is strange seeing empty streets like this. I guess it depends on how you define ‘Glasgow’ but the city itself has a population of around 600,000. However if you include what goes up to make ‘Greater Glasgow’ then we’re talking about 2.5 million people within a local bus journey’s distance. So this goes to make up Britain’s third biggest urban area and Scotland’s largest city.

Usually every day of the week will find this area busy, being a mix of retail and commercial, also bordering on the edge of a substantial financial district as well as residential. Even at 2am you can find traffic jams as those taking advantage of the clubs and pubs head off home.

Yet almost nobody’s here.
